Sea Center Texas Opens Its Doors to the Sun

The marine aquarium, fish hatchery and nature center operated by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is benefiting from a new solar array.

The TPWD enlisted the help of Green Mountain Energy to power their facilities with 100% renewable energy and to develop innovative energy solutions that reinforce the department’s commitment to sustainability.

“As a recognized sustainability leader in the great state of Texas, we are constantly looking at smarter and more effective means of resource conservation,” said Andee Chamberlain, sustainability programs manager, Texas Parks and Wildlife. “Our partnership with Green Mountain Energy allows us to develop new and innovative sustainability practices and to share those learnings with others in the state and country.”

The array at Sea Center Texas will provide approximately 27 MWh of solar energy per year and will help power the facility’s visitor center, aquarium exhibits, touch tanks and hatchery buildings.
