Green Mountain Energy Company Donates $30,000 to Waco’s Live Oak Classical School for Solar Installation

Sun Club™ donation will fund solar array to help offset electricity used by school building

WACO, TEXAS- Green Mountain Energy Company proudly presented a donation in the amount of $30,000 to Live Oak Classical School (500 Clay Ave.) for a solar installation on the school. The check was presented on May 21 during Live Oak’s annual Honors Ceremony for students of the Logic School and Rhetoric School.  Students, faculty and community members were present at the ceremony which recognized students for their scholastic accomplishments and announced the solar donation from Green Mountain.

Live Oak recently introduced an environmental science class to help raise awareness about sustainable living amongst students, staff and the community.  The class will introduce a garden, fish pond and a large rain harvesting system for students to get hands-on experience on self-sufficient methods to make a positive impact on the environment. The solar installation, which will happen over the summer, acts as another avenue for students to gain environmental awareness and responsibility.

“Live Oak is thrilled to have the opportunity to further our green initiatives thanks to Green Mountain,” said Alison Moffatt, Head of School, Live Oak Classical School. “Solar energy will be a great way to make a difference not only in the environment, but also in the lives of our students who will hopefully follow by example in caring for the planet.”

The donation is made possible through the Green Mountain Energy™ Sun Club™, a program where customer contributions provide solar power installations for non-profit organizations. Solar power is an important and easily accessible renewable resource since energy can be generated wherever there is sunlight. Additional Sun Club donations in Waco include Waco Chamber of Commerce, Cameron Park Zoo and the Waco Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

“Green Mountain is pleased to help programs like the ones at Live Oak, which bring environmental education to youth,” said Tony Napolillo, Sun Club Program Manager. “Educating students on renewable energy through hands-on experiences can inspire more sustainable living today and green career choices for the future, which is good for all of us.”
