Energy management system
Make-A-Wish North Texas HQ’s new energy management system upgrade powers 5 additional wishes each year the system is active.
In 1980, a 7-year-old Arizona boy diagnosed with leukemia had just one wish: to be a police officer. This boy’s dream inspired the global organization we know today as Make-A-Wish. The Make-A-Wish North Texas chapter was founded in 1982, inspired by that local Arizona community’s compassion two years prior.
Over the past 40 years, nearly 12,000 wishes have been granted across a 161-county territory covering more than 60% of Texas. Past studies have shown that 3 out of 4 wish families have seen their child’s treatment take a positive turn after the child’s wish is granted. This phenomenon has inspired doctors to use wishes as part of their patients’ treatment plans.
A $114,000 grant toward a newly installed energy management system (EMS) will help improve the North Texas chapter building’s energy efficiency, reducing anticipated energy consumption by 32% annually. These annual energy savings will empower them to make even more children’s wishes come true.
