Bike parking and cleaner transport
Fifteen new bike parking racks and air pump stations will continue to elevate the city of Houston’s existing bike infrastructure, and an electric cargo trike will enhance community outreach programming.
BikeHouston was founded in 2004 to transform Houston into a city where anyone, regardless of who they are or where they live, can safely and easily use a bicycle for transportation. Through public-private partnerships, they interface with city-level decision makers to identify areas throughout the city that could benefit from improved, safer bike infrastructure and work to have that infrastructure included in new construction and development plans. BikeHouston also leads bike rides for riders of all skill levels and educates Houston residents on how to effectively advocate for better bike infrastructure in their own communities.
The newest initiative of BikeHouston is to mitigate the lack of sufficient bike parking around Houston, which is a primary reason why residents are discouraged from choosing to bike over driving. To help expand its bike parking initiative, Sun Club awarded BikeHouston a $50,000 grant to install bike racks and air pump stations in convenient locations throughout the city, such as in front of area businesses and at bike trail entry points.
