Texas Non-Profits Receive $185,000 for Solar Projects

Solar-powered theater, biking and gardening are coming to Texas! The Green Mountain Energy Sun Club® will be presenting donations to non-profits in Houston, Dallas, and Fort Worth next month, totaling $185,000 for solar projects in all.

Meet the non-profits!

  • Main Street Theater, a Houston-based non-profit on a mission to create theater that challenges its audience to think and its artists to grow, will be given $100,000 from the Sun Club to fund the purchase and installation of 77 solar panels at their brand new theater building, which is currently under construction. To learn more about Main Street Theater’s sustainability renovations, funded by their “Capital Campaign,” and how you can help support them, please visit mainstreettheater.com. Follow their construction updates on their blog.
  • Fort Worth Bike Sharing, a non-profit bicycle share program in Fort Worth, is receiving $35,000 from the Sun Club to retrofit one existing bike-share station with solar power and install nine brand new stations powered by solar. These solar donations will help power the kiosks to make this pollution-free mode of transportation even more sustainable and will contribute to the non-profit’s mission to enhance the Fort Worth community by providing an affordable, efficient, environmentally friendly bike-share program.
  • Texas Discovery Gardens in Dallas is accepting a $50,000 donation from the Sun Club to purchase and install solar power at the non-profit’s Natural Learning Center later this year. The solar array will enhance the Gardens’ existing sustainability initiatives to preserve the environment and protect Texas wildlife.
    • To celebrate this solar donation, Texas Discovery Gardens will be open to the community, who will have hands-on access to the solar panel system that will later be installed at the non-profit. Join us!
      When: Friday, March 6th
      Donation Event: 10:30 – 11:00AM
      Free Admission: 10:00AM – 3:00PM
Where: Texas Discovery Gardens, 3601 Martin Luther King Blvd., Dallas, TX 75210

All three non-profit organizations will be presented with donation checks from the Sun Club in special ceremonies – pictures will be uploaded to our Flickr page and shared on social media.
