Another Green Year for Green Mountain and Our Customers

Just like you, here at Green Mountain we work hard to reduce our environmental impact not only from the products that we offer but also from our day-to-day operations. From composting to green commuting incentives, we strive to put the ‘green’ in Green Mountain every day – and help inspire our customers to do the same.

To share our progress, we document our environmental achievements through GreenMountainEnergySustainability.com. We recently updated the site to reflect our latest markets, products, and accomplishments. Highlights include:

  • We’re growing! We entered three new markets in 2012: customers can now choose cleaner Green Mountain Energy® electricity in parts of Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey (business customers only). Check out Our Markets and Products page to see the environmental impact our customers make for each of our electricity products.
  • We dedicated our 40th Sun Club solar installation with the help of our customers. Our customers now have the option to support solar energy for non-profits through the Green Mountain EnergyTM Sun ClubTM in Texas, New York, and now Pennsylvania, too. The increased participation has allowed us to support more projects than ever before—40 and counting! Visit the Sun Club page to learn about the latest Sun Club-supported projects.
  • We’ve racked up a few new awards! Keep Austin Beautiful awarded us the Dell Industry Leadership Award for helping our customers reduce their environmental impact, our exemplary environmental standards and practices, and pursuit to change the way power is made. The Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce also recognized us for our environmental achievements. Visit the Awards page to read about these and other awards.
  • We remain committed to quality and transparency. We continue to back up our renewable energy and carbon offset product sales with a voluntary, third-party audit to validate the environmental credibility of our products. We also support third-party certification standards such as Green-e (RECs) and the Climate Action Reserve (offsets). Check out Our Standards page to read our latest product portfolio audit report.

We have lots of exciting plans in the works for 2013, including an expanded employee sustainability program and even more new markets, products, and services. Check back soon to see how these plans unfold and access the latest data on our customers’ environmental impact and our corporate carbon footprint assessment for 2012. The numbers should be available in early spring.

Here’s to a happy, healthy, and environmentally friendly new year!
