As the sun rose over the Houston Food Bank this morning, it welcomed 280 brand new solar panels to the roof of the non-profit’s warehouse near downtown Houston, Texas, where this 5,300-square-foot solar array will now be generating clean electricity for the largest food bank in the nation.
The solar installation will be producing so much renewable power, in fact, that it will generate the equivalent of two meals every hour for the course of its lifetime. That makes a big difference to the 800,000 people in the community that the Food Bank serves every year.
This solar donation was made possible in part by a $100,000 donation from the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club®, who selected the Houston Food Bank to receive the donation earlier this year.
We’re excited to see how this renewable source of energy enhances the Food Bank’s operations and impact in the Houston community, where many of our Green Mountain customers and employees live.
