Project Overview

Founded in May 1996, Upper Kirby was the first private foundation community center to be established in Houston. Upper Kirby is the home to the Upper Kirby District Association and the Upper Kirby District Foundation, organizations established to improve the quality of life and sense of community in the Upper Kirby District. The organization serves the needs of other community non-profit organizations such as the Nature Conservatory of Texas, Inc., Mothers for Clean Air, Houston Women’s Caucus for Arts, Crisis Intervention of Houston, Inc., and Texans for Alternatives to Pesticides. This array, the first built with funds donated by the Sun Club in Houston, had the distinction of being the largest in the area when it was dedicated. The Sun Club is proud to have been involved in such a monumental part of solar history in Houston and even happier that larger arrays have been installed since then!
