Trust for Public Land

Founded in 1972, the Trust for Public Land creates parks and protects land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. As of 2019, the Trust for Public Land has developed more than 5,000 parks and green spaces across the country. 

The Trust for Public Land worked with neighborhood residents and institutional stakeholders to create a new master plan for a network of parks, trails, and preserves across the community called the Five Mile Creek Urban Greenbelt and secured approval from the Dallas Park and Recreation Board for 23 miles of new trails, 500+ acres of nature parks, and a comprehensive revitalization of Five Mile Creek. 

The Alice Branch Creek initiative transforms a 1.8-acre vacant lot into a health and wellness trail to safely connect South Oak Cliff High School to the nearby Bluitt-Flowers Health Clinic. 

Sun Club awarded the Trust for Public Land $148,989 to install fifteen light poles in this 1.8-acre pocket park. These eco-friendly poles are solar powered and include battery storage to function all night. In addition to being off-the-grid, they include Wi-Fi and cameras — providing a safer place for the residents of Oak Cliff.
