Project Overview

Founded in 1993, ASSETS PA provides training, consulting and employment opportunities that focus on businesses owned by people of color, women or low-income entrepreneurs. A staffing initiative provides robust wrap-around services to break down barriers preventing employees from maintaining long-term employment. These barriers include lack of transportation, childcare, training and mental health support.

Through a Sun Club grant of $131,700, ASSETS PA was able to purchase two electric vehicles (EV) and EV chargers. These vehicles will sustainably reduce third-party transportation costs.

In 2019, 250 candidates were successfully placed through Lancaster Works – a local staffing agency in Lancaster, PA – with over 60% of them requiring transportation assistance. ASSETS PA was able to help with in-house transportation services, helping to reduce annual costs by 85% ($38,200) and allowing the grant to pay for itself in fewer than four years. Annual realized savings will be reinvested into the program, allowing ASSETS PA to grow by 25% and help serve and place 60 additional workers. This increase in job placement is equivalent to a direct impact of $350K in five years, which will further enhance partnership growth and stability.
