Through a partnership with Green Mountain Energy Sun Club, Cancer Bridges installed a 46kW solar array system with the help of a $116,000 sustainability grant.
The new system is expected to power approximately 60% of the organization's building and generate about $6,000 in energy savings during its first year of production. Those savings help Cancer Bridges direct more resources toward its mission of providing free emotional, social, educational, health and wellness support for individuals and families impacted by cancer.
Since opening its doors, the organization has served more than 16,500 members and offers nearly 200 free programs and services each month, including supportive counseling, support groups, wellness classes, creative expression workshops and family programs.
Over the lifetime of the solar array, the energy savings are equivalent to supporting an additional 1,500 people on their cancer journeys, expanding access to the vital programs and services that help individuals and families navigate the challenges of a cancer diagnosis.
Together, Sun Club and Cancer Bridges are helping create a cleaner future while strengthening support for the Western Pennsylvania cancer community.
