Founded in 1980, Alzheimer’s Association is a global leader in providing and promoting quality care and support for all affected by Alzheimer’s disease. As the nation’s largest under-recognized public health crisis, it is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. 1 in 3 seniors die with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. Beyond research, the organization’s mission is to provide a vast array of services, including resources, education, programming, support groups, care consultations and public policy change at the local and national level. By driving global research, the Association reduces risk and improves early detection, which helps maximize quality care and support.
Locally, the Houston area chapter currently funds more than $10 million in research at 6 academic institutions. In 2023, the chapter was awarded a $178,878 grant to fund a rooftop solar array system to help offset 65% of its building’s energy needs. Savings from going solar are expected to exceed $10,000 in the first year alone.
