PHS Strawberry Mansion Green Resource Center

Strawberry Mansion Green Resource Center is a community greenhouse and garden that gives students and residents access to fresh produce and educational opportunities. Lighting the way to a sustainable solution, Green Mountain Energy Sun Club donated $40,000 to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the East Park Revitalization Alliance (EPRA) for a 10-kilowatt solar array. The solar array will power the electric greenhouse heaters, fans and safety lights with 100% renewable energy. But it doesn’t end with solar energy. The greenhouse will produce about 40,000 seedlings a year for neighboring gardens, helping give underserved people throughout Philadelphia greater food security. Opening doors to environmental education, the greenhouse allows Strawberry Mansion High School students to learn about sustainability and alternative energy. The Strawberry Mansion Green Resource Center is part of EPRA’s network of gardens in the Strawberry Mansion community.
