Project Overview

Since 1987, Houston Habitat for Humanity, along with thousands of sponsors and volunteers, has built almost 1000 affordable homes for purchase by hard-working, low-income Houstonians. Qualified homebuyers agree to a no-interest mortgage and contribute 300 hours of "sweat equity" in lieu of a down payment. Partner families are provided with classes on money management and home maintenance.

During the 2011 Green Build, many homes were built at the same time in the same neighborhood and all built to strict green standards for health and energy efficiency. The Sun Club donated funds to install solar hot water heaters on four of the homes, helping the new homeowners save each month on their energy costs. Every penny saved is a penny earned!
