Project Overview

Green Woods Charter School is an award-winning, one-of-a-kind public charter school located in Philadelphia, PA.  Their students learn about the environment by being in the environment.  So much so, that their new school facility, was built with a 3-acre outdoor learning lab, allowing students to continually and purposefully interact with the environment. It includes a pond, wetlands, stream and organic gardens. Thanks to a $30,000 donation from the Sun Club, it also features two ground-mounted solar array which supply enough pollution-free electricity to run the pumps for the pond and stream. It will also provide hands-on solar education for the students.

The array fits perfectly with the goal of the school: to seamlessly integrate indoor and outdoor learning, connecting students' classroom learning to the real world.  At Green Woods they utilize the environment for meaningful scientific and civic engagement of students at all grade levels. While others may be starting to incorporate STEM concepts into their curriculum, Green Woods has lead the way by building our entire curriculum framework around science and the environment. The Sun Club is proud to help!
