For more than 50 years, Shakespeare Dallas has brought live theatre to communities with limited access to the arts. Thanks to a $66,000 Sun Club grant, the organization can now transport performers, costumes and sets to schools across the region in a new electric Sprinter van. The EV reduces emissions while helping Shakespeare Dallas bring educational theatre experiences to students up to 100 miles away.

Since 1936, Casa Mañana has enriched the Fort Worth community through live theatre and arts education. A $225,000 Sun Club grant helped the theatre replace its stage lighting system with energy-efficient LEDs, reducing annual energy use from 75,000 kWh to 17,500 kWh and keeping more than 39,000 pounds of lighting materials out of landfills. The improvement also frees up resources to provide more students with access to theatre classes and camps.

A $135,000 Sun Club grant helped Gulf Coast Bird Observatory install a 29.52 kW rooftop solar array and add an electric vehicle, offsetting 65% of the organization's energy needs. The project is expected to save nearly $15,000 annually in operating costs, equivalent to more than 5,000 hours of scientific bird monitoring.

The expected life of a typical system is about 25 years. Because there are no moving parts, very little maintenance is required. Photovoltaic panels require infrequent cleaning to remove any built-up dirt, pollen or other materials that can reduce the efficiency of the system. If you live in a humid environment, rainfall may be sufficient to keep your panels clean.

No, sustainability grants are reserved for nonprofit organizations with socially responsible missions.
