Shakespeare Dallas, a nonprofit professional theater company dedicated to bringing the works of William Shakespeare and other classic literature to audiences across North Texas, has expanded its education and outreach efforts with the help of a $60,000 Green Mountain Energy Sun Club grant that funded an electric vehicle (EV).
The EV has become a driving force for the organization, enabling staff and teaching artists to travel more sustainably while delivering arts education directly to students and communities throughout the region. Since joining Shakespeare Dallas' fleet, the vehicle has traveled to 60 school campuses and helped the organization serve more than 13,700 students through touring performances and educational programs, including its Shakespeare on the Go! initiative.
Through Shakespeare on the Go!, professional teaching artists bring interactive performances and curriculum-based workshops directly to schools, helping students of all ages engage with Shakespeare's works in accessible and meaningful ways. By transporting teaching artists, costumes, props and educational materials across North Texas, the EV helps expand access to high-quality arts education for schools that may not otherwise have opportunities to experience live professional theater.
By extending the organization's reach while reducing the environmental impact of travel, the EV is helping Shakespeare Dallas connect more students with the arts and make a positive impact in the communities it serves.
