Largest Solar Array to Help Power a Texas Zoo
The nationally acclaimed Fort Worth Zoo is home to more than 500 animal species and a world-famous reptile collection, housed in the Museum of Living Art (MOLA). The institution’s focus on education and conservation is second to none, enhancing the lives of more than 1 million visitors a year. For this reason they were chosen to receive a $140,000 donation from the Sun Club. The array was placed on top of their administration building to help offset their energy costs and put more funds into their important conservation programs.
The Fort Worth Zoo has the distinction of being the 30th Sun Club donation. “We are grateful for the donation from Green Mountain Energy,” said Michael Fouraker, Fort Worth Zoo executive director. “The Zoo is constantly looking for ways to incorporate conservation of all kinds into our daily operation. When we were approached about this opportunity, we thought it was a perfect fit as it demonstrates the use of natural power without disruption or destruction of animal habitat."
