Plants and trees for the botanical gardens
A $200,000 Sun Club grant supported sustainability-focused enhancements to Camden Park, an award-winning community green space that delivers environmental, recreational and social benefits to the Westchase District.
The park's improvements include 193 newly planted trees, more than 13,000 native and pollinator-friendly plants, expanded shade coverage and stormwater management features designed to support a healthier urban environment. These enhancements help improve air quality, reduce heat buildup, support local wildlife and create inviting spaces for residents and visitors to enjoy year-round.
The park also features educational programming, fitness activities, performances, public art and other community events connecting people with nature while helping strengthen environmental resilience.
Serving nearly 250,000 visitors in its first year, Camden Park has become a vibrant community destination that connects people with nature while helping strengthen environmental resilience in West Houston.
The project reflects a shared commitment between the Westchase District Community Fund(WCDF) and Green Mountain Energy Sun Club to create a greener, more connected future for West Houston. Together, WCDF and Sun Club are supporting innovative green spaces that improve quality of life for those who live, work and visit the area.
