Project Overview

Founded in 1895, the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) saves wildlife and wild places worldwide through science, conservation action, education and inspiring people to value nature. Today, WCS boasts more boots on the ground than any other conservation organization. It also operates the largest network of urban wildlife parks in the world, including the Bronx Zoo, New York Aquarium, Central Park Zoo, Prospect Park Zoo, and the Queens Zoo, which attract over 4 million visitors combined each year.

The Sun Club awarded WCS a $144,088 grant to replace gas-powered utility vehicles with 12 new, electric utility vehicles. This fleet will allow Bronx Zoo staff to transport animals, materials and people without emitting pollution, leading by example and making a positive impact on the planet. These additions complement the existing sustainability efforts the zoo has implemented for over 30 years.
