Electric vehicles and solar panels
Off-grid solar at local green spaces will diversify outdoor programming, and electric vehicles (EVs) will offer clean transportation independence.
City Parks Foundation (CFP) was founded to create thriving parks in all five boroughs of NYC. In 1992, it launched its environmental education program incorporating outdoor classrooms in these green spaces, touching on food justice, sustainable design, climate change and STEM-based programming. CPF’s programs reach over 310,000 people annually at these spaces.
A $130,000 Sun Club grant will equip four outdoor Learning Gardens with new off-grid solar panels and battery storage, expanding additional programming to include nutrition workshops and Wi-Fi-based learning. Additionally, EVs will support transporting tools and supplies to each green space, resulting in $9,400 in fuel cost savings each year while also reducing CPF’s carbon footprint by 10,000 metric tons annually.
