Claim to Fame: Brightening a Famous Texas Park with Solar

Project Overview

Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is a famous park in the Texas Hill Country, known for its giant pink granite dome. Bringing the park a solar solution, Green Mountain Energy Sun Club donated $40,000 for the purchase and installation of a 12-kilowatt solar array that will be located at the park’s headquarters. The solar array offsets about 50% of the energy usage at the headquarters, resulting in less energy costs and more park enhancements. Park visitors now have the opportunity to learn about sustainability and alternative energy before they start exploring, while they check in at the park’s entrance. Enchanted Rock is part of Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, an organization that offers outdoor activities and strives to protect the Texas environment.
