Through a $135,000 grant from Green Mountain Energy Sun Club, the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory (GCBO) is advancing its mission to protect birds and their habitats around the Gulf and beyond with a rooftop solar array system and an electric vehicle.
Known for its conservation leadership, GCBO conducts bird migration research, habitat enhancement projects, land conservation efforts and educational outreach programs that help support healthy ecosystems throughout the region.
The new solar array system and electric vehicle will offset 65% of the observatory's energy needs, saving nearly $15,000 in overhead costs each year — equivalent to more than 5,000 hours of scientific bird monitoring. These savings can be reinvested into conservation, research and community outreach efforts that further GCBO's vision of healthy ecosystems with abundant space for birds to survive and thrive.
By providing clean energy solutions that support environmental stewardship, Sun Club is helping Gulf Coast Bird Observatory expand its impact across Brazoria County and the Gulf region.
