Take control over your account with text alerts

Get updates sent directly to your phone with automatic text messages. These periodic notifications are designed to help you manage your electricity usage and budget.

You can receive text alerts to notify you when the following events occur for your Green Mountain Energy account:

  • High usage alert (25% more than expected)
  • Payment confirmation
  • Payment method declined
  • Credit card expiration reminder
  • AutoPay cancellation confirmation

  1. Log in to your online account.
  2. Go to My Account and select PROFILE.
  3. Click on Alerts & Contact Preferences.
  4. Select the type of text messages you'd like to receive.

Text Message FAQs and Terms & Conditions

Green Mountain Energy text messages are a convenient way to stay informed about your account, service-related requests, usage, billing, and more. Once you opt in, you’ll automatically receive texts based on the preferences you select in your online account, which you can manage at any time. You can also request updates on demand (as you need them) by texting a keyword to 73639. Please note that the types of texts available are slightly different for customers on prepaid plans.

You can opt in through your online account. Once logged in, click "PROFILE" at the top and choose "Alerts and Contact Preferences" from the dropdown menu. From here, you can choose which text alerts you want to receive. 

You can also call us at 866-785-4668. Simply ask to be opted in to receive account and service-related text messages and then provide the call center agent with your mobile number. You will be sent a welcome message via text message on your mobile device, and you will begin receiving account alerts.

There are several ways you can opt out of receiving text messages.

You can stop receiving text messages at any time by logging into your online account. Once logged in, click "PROFILE" at the top and choose “Alerts and Contact Preferences” from the dropdown menu. From here, you can uncheck the box(es) next to the alert(s) you want to discontinue. You can also text STOP to 73639 from your mobile device to be unsubscribed from all Green Mountain Energy text messages sent to that phone number. You can also speak with a call center agent at 866-785-4668. Tell them you want to opt out of text messages or ask them to remove the cell phone number from your account. Once you have opted out, you will receive a text message from Green Mountain Energy Alerts confirming that you are opted out.

Furthermore, your mobile device will be automatically opted out on the due date of your FINAL invoice. You will receive a text message from Green Mountain Energy Alerts confirming that you are opted out.

*Note: These options are different for customers on prepaid electricity plans. Message and data rates may apply. The number and frequency of messages will vary based on the specific alert types selected from the “Alerts & contact preferences" in your online account.
