In celebration of Earth Day 2011, Green Mountain will give away 600 Red Oak Liners at Earth Day Houston at Discovery Green Park
Houston, Texas – Happy Earth Day, Houston! This year, in honor of Earth Day 2011, Green Mountain Energy Company wants to further help the environment by giving away trees to Houston residents. Green Mountain, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of clean energy, will give away 600 Red Oak liners at Earth Day Houston, held at Downtown’s Discovery Green Park on Saturday, April 23, on a first-come, first-served basis.
“Since our inception in 1997, Earth Day has been our favorite holiday as we can focus on our shared goal of a cleaner environment and we are thrilled to be able to educate and give away trees to people that live in the communities we serve,” said Mark Lamping, vice president of Sales, Green Mountain Energy Company. “We hope local Houston residents and customers will come out to Earth Day Houston to learn more about our company, pick up a tree, plant it in their neighborhoods, and continue to help us fulfill our mission ‘to change the way power is made.’”
From 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 23, Earth Day Houston will feature entertainment, food, eco-expos, and even a farmer’s market, all of which are perfect for a fun family outing. The free Red Oaks will be available at the Green Mountain booth so Earth Day participants are encouraged to visit the booth early before all the trees are given away! The first 300 trees will be given away for free to any visitor that stops by the booth and the remaining 300 trees will be given away to those who sign up for 100% Pollution-Free℠ electricity. Red Oak trees are native to Houston and grow well in the areas within and surrounding Houston. In addition, planting trees is a simple and cost-effective way to decrease carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and to beautify communities. Strategically placed, trees provide shade and can even increase home energy efficiency. A full grown Red Oak absorbs approximately 900 pounds of CO2 each year and contributes significantly to air quality.
