Coppell, Texas Resident Wins “I Am Green Mountain” Video Contest

Posted: September 14, 2010

AUSTIN, TEXAS – Tania Cardenas, a Coppell, Texas resident, has a lot to celebrate. Cardenas is the Grand Prize Winner of Green Mountain Energy Company’s “I AM GREEN MOUNTAIN” Video Contest and will soon receive a Home Energy Makeover valued at $3,000 from Standard Renewable Energy and a $500 credit on her Green Mountain Energy® electricity bill.

“I was so excited,” said Tania Cardenas, winner of the “I AM GREEN MOUNTAIN” video contest after learning she had won the Grand Prize. “We worked really hard on the video and had a wonderful time putting it together.  We are so happy with the final product and it feels good to put out a positive message about Green Mountain and how wind power is good for the environment.”

Cardenas’ video features her family’s appreciation for wind power, and how it inspired them to use the power of wind to reduce their overall electricity usage at home.

“I AM GREEN MOUNTAIN” VIDEO CONTEST

The “I AM GREEN MOUNTAIN” video contest launched in June, and invited existing Green Mountain customers to submit videos telling why they chose to support renewable energy from Green Mountain.

“The truth is we just really care about the environment, and I’m a Green Mountain customer because I know they feel the same way,” Cardenas said in the video.

Cardenas has been a Green Mountain Energy customer for over five years. “When I found out Green Mountain was selling 100% wind, I signed up with them. They felt like a hometown company doing something good for the environment and that resonated with me.”

In addition to purchasing pollution-free electricity from Green Mountain Energy, Cardenas and her husband are environmentally-conscious in many other ways, including limiting their water usage as much as possible, keeping the air conditioning set at a reasonable temperature, using lots of fans throughout their house and using as many energy efficiency appliances as possible.

CRITERIA

The contest entries were judged on three criteria:

  1. Passion for being a Green Mountain Energy customer.
  2. Creativity in which that passion was communicated.
  3. Authenticity and originality.

“Although we received several amazing videos, Tania’s really stood out because the message was clear, the video was creative and it clearly showed her enthusiasm for being a Green Mountain customer,” said Paul Markovich, President of Residential Services, Green Mountain Energy Company. “We are thrilled that many of our Texas customers love supporting renewable energy with Green Mountain and took the time to make videos.”

PRIZES

The Grand Prize is a $3,000 Home Energy Makeover and a $500 credit toward the winner’s Green Mountain Energy electricity bill. Plus, three runner-ups each will receive a $250 REI gift card and a $250 Green Mountain Energy electricity bill credit.  The three Runners-Up are:

  • Joahanna Renfro from Sherman, Texas
  • Dion Wilky from Magnolia, Texas
  • Cynthia Wood from Pasadena, Texas

Green Mountain Energy decided to sponsor the video contest after hearing from hundreds of customers while casting its recent “For Everyone” advertising campaign.

“When we talked to so many customers to cast the ad campaign, we realized that many of them had some very inspiring stories – we wanted to hear more!” said Markovich.  “We also wanted to thank them for their support of Green Mountain by offering a special customer-focused contest.”
