Lollapalooza 2012 Rocks a Smaller Carbon Footprint

Believe it or not, Lollapalooza Music Festival is a clean and green event.  Keeping Grant Park and the planet healthy is a key mission of Lollapalooza.   One way Lolla is leading the way in sustainable festival planning is by working with Green Mountain Energy Company to track and offset Lollapalooza’s carbon footprint, along with offering event goers an easy way to offset their own emissions.

Prior to the Festival, attendees were offered the chance to purchase certified carbon offsets from Green Mountain Energy Company when buying their tickets on Lolla’s website. By adding the $3.00 Green Mountain Energy® Fan Tag to a ticket, attendees offset the equivalent of 220 pounds of CO2. That has a similar environmental impact to not driving a car 245 miles, recycling 550 aluminum cans, or as much as 13 trees can absorb in one year.

C3’s commitment has helped to offset approximately 5,460 metric tons of CO2!  All carbon offsets purchased from Lollapalooza 2012 will benefit the Central Sanitary Landfill project in Pierson, Michigan. The project is third party certified by the Climate Action Reserve, which means the offsets are real, permanent, additional and verifiable.
