Sustainable Stories: CoreSpace, Inc.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We want to learn how other companies approach sustainability, so we've decided to publish a series of posts featuring innovative companies and people who are doing their part to support our planet. See below to read a guest blog from Mark Wulff, VP of Marketing & Business Development at CoreSpace, Inc.

As more and more companies start to utilize applications and data to create business efficiencies, more data is being created and stored on servers, ultimately using more power.  Learn how one Green Mountain commercial customer is taking a green step forward by increasing their efficiency and minimizing overall impact on the Earth.

Can you tell us a little bit about CoreSpace, Inc. and what you guys do?

CoreSpace is an IT Infrastructure Services Provider specializing in Cloud services, Dedicated Servers and Colocation, including PCI and HIPAA compliant solutions.  We assist our customers in creating and implementing cost effective, customized IT back-end solutions. Our passion is to bring value to our customers, while speeding up applications, lowering latency, simplifying their IT operations and improving how IT impacts their business.  We are headquartered out of Dallas and are 100% woman-owned and operated.

Tell us about the data server industry – how green is it?

Fortune 500 Companies that have large Data Centers, i.e. Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. have already adopted green policies and are aware of their social responsibility.  It takes great effort for smaller companies to make green initiatives a priority.

CoreSpace, Inc. believes that we have a responsibility and chooses to make every effort to do our part, whenever possible, to implement greener technologies and reduce our energy footprint. We believe that consumers care that you’re thinking about the environment and the impact you have on it.

Explain some of CoreSpace’s sustainability efforts and goals.

In order to keep applications and data available 24/7, data centers must consume a huge amount of consistent and reliable power.

One of CoreSpace’s sustainability efforts centers on implementing newer energy-efficient equipment wherever possible.  In fact, in 2014 we were recognized as a Finalist in the Uptime Institute’s Server Round Up competition for reducing our energy footprint through replacement of older technology with brand new state of the art UPS systems and newer, more efficient server hardware.

We also participate in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) Load Response program.  ERCOT's mission is to maintain the reliability of the electricity grid of Texas and help market participants fulfill customers' electric service needs by maintaining a balance between load and generation.  CoreSpace participates in this program as a resource that can self-generate power on-site and give utility power back to the grid and community when needed.

And of course, we believe in using green energy whenever possible, which is why we have partnered with Green Mountain Energy! You guys have committed to doing the best thing for the planet, which is a goal we both share and are proud to be a part of.

That’s why we are also part of the EPA’s (Environmental Protection Agency) Green Power Partnership Program. The Partnership currently has more than 1,300 Partner organizations voluntarily using billions of kilowatt-hours of green power annually.

Our sustainability efforts are also focused on employee habits, and we encourage our employees (through incentives) to participate.  We recycle all paper and aluminum products and have recycling bins all over the office. The more we can keep out of the landfills, the better…
