October marks the beginning of Energy Action Month, a time to pause and reflect on ways you can conserve energy and water on a daily basis.
Water conservation is a big piece of the renewable energy story, but it isn’t often talked about. With the launch of our Pollution FreeTM WaterSaver product, Green Mountain becomes the only electricity retailer in Texas offering a water conservation kit to its customers.
Water is a precious resource, and choosing renewable energy, which uses virtually no water to produce electricity, is one of the best ways to conserve our limited water supply. Consider that nearly 13 percent of energy used in the U.S. is consumed in the treatment, distribution, reclamation or usage of water, the equivalent annual energy consumption of roughly 40 million Americans.
The Pollution FreeTM WaterSaver product allows consumers to choose 100 percent wind power for their home and receive a Water Eco-Kit™ (pictured right) with water-saving products like faucet aerators and high-efficiency showerheads. Green Mountain is the only electricity retailer in Texas offering a water conservation kit to its customers.
To mark this special occasion, we placed a 500-gallon rain barrel (pictured below) at the 2014 SXSW Eco conference in Austin this week, and encouraged conference goers to write their wishes for a water-wise world on the barrel – you can share yours in the comments below! According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, drought conditions currently affect 25 percent of the U.S.
