Best Friends Animal Society is the only national animal welfare organization focused exclusively on ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. A leader in the no-kill movement, Best Friends runs the nation's largest no-kill sanctuary for companion animals, as well as lifesaving programs in partnership with rescue groups and shelters across the country. Since 1984, Best Friends has helped reduce the number of animals killed in American shelters from 17 million per year to about four million. By continuing to build effective initiatives that reduce the number of animals entering shelters and increase the number who find homes, Best Friends and its nationwide network of members and partners are working to Save Them All®.
What is Strut Your Mutt?
Best Friends Animal Society's Strut Your Mutt event may just be the most fun you can have while helping to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in your neighborhood – and around the country. The annual series of fundraising dog walks, 5K runs, and festivals culminates in a day of fun for four- and two-legged participants of all ages. This year, Strut Your Mutt NYC will be held on September 26, 2015, at Pier 26 Hudson River Park in New York City. You can learn more and sign up for this event by visiting strutyourmutt.org/nyc2015.
What are some of the company’s sustainable efforts?
Best Friends Animal Society will be opening an adoption center in SoHo in spring 2016. Sustainability will be imperative for our local operation once we have an established location. Today, the local New York City team works remotely from their homes and are encouraged by the organization to go green and paperless as much as possible.
Best Friends employees also follow a vegetarian diet during work time. All catered meals at events and lunches are meat-free. This philosophy is rooted in the organization’s love of all animal life with an understanding of the underlying positive impact this tradition has on the reduction of greenhouse gases.
