Project Overview

The Houston ISD Foundation was formed in 1994 to mobilize the local community and fund innovative projects to support the students of HISD. A $182,000 grant will support the foundation’s latest initiative: sustainable upgrades to MIMS SPARK Park, a combined school and community park located on the campus of the Mandarin Immersion Magnet School.

SPARK parks fill an essential need for easily accessible green space geared toward hyperlocal neighborhoods. These green spaces are available to everyone even outside the 180+ days per year that school is in session. The updates to the MIMS SPARK Park mark a new chapter in sustainability and reflect the unique culture of the school.

Sustainability upgrades include an ADA accessible Raincrete path, a solar workstation, a solar power charging station, a water bottle filling station and a bamboo grove, creating a space to engage students and the community on an educational, physical and social level.
