Project Overview

For over 30 years, GrowNYC’s Greenmarket staff, volunteers and farmers have been working together to promote regional agriculture, preserve farmland and ensure a continuing supply of fresh, local produce for all New Yorkers. This Sun Club project is unique not just because it's the first solar array donated by the Sun Club in New York, but also the first one to be placed on top of a van! Prior to its installation on the Greenmarket van permanently parked at Union Square, staff members had to use a butane-powered generator to run their appliances during their natural food cooking demonstrations for market visitors and school children. Any other equipment, such as computers and phone chargers, also had to use this butane generator. Now it's all powered by the sun with no pollution!

An educational sign donated by the Sun Club informs passer-bys about the array and how it is helping the Greenmarket reduce its environmental footprint and save money, further supporting this unique urban farmer's market.
