Project Overview

The sun shines brightly in West Texas and that was just one reason why  the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Center was perfect for a solar donation from the Sun Club. This amazing non-profit has the mission of promoting public awareness, appreciation, and concern for the natural diversity of the Chihuahuan Desert region through research and education. A $30,000 donation from the Sun Club installed a 6.7 kW ground-mounted solar array which is enabling this organization put more resources into their important mission of  promoting public awareness, appreciation, and concern for the natural diversity of the Chihuahuan Desert region.

Highlights of the Nature Center include a desert botanical garden, 1400-sq.-ft. cactus and succulent greenhouse, more than three miles of hiking trails, and interpretive exhibits. Both formal and informal education programs for children and adults are offered throughout the year. The Sun Club is thrilled to make this very sunny spot in Texas even brighter!

UPDATE! In 2019, Sun Club provided an additional $27,000 to increase the solar installation by 6.3 kW. The 13 kW system will now produce enough electricity to cover the daily energy needs of the Nature Center, making it a net-zero facility.
