BRONX - JUNE 14
New York Botanical Gardens
These historic gardens are raising awareness about green space and the natural world through construction of a public composting restroom facility that will save water and decrease pollution output (to New York City’s only fresh waterway).
Event details
ARLINGTON - JUNE 16
City of Arlington Downtown Library
The library set the bar as the largest Sun Club donation to date and serves as a sustainability model for other libraries across the nation. It approached sustainability using a three-pronged approach—learn, practice and implement. And now its sustainability components focus on conservation, renewable energy, clean transportation, sustainable horticulture and visitor education.
Event details
ALBANY - JUNE 23
Old Jail Art Center
This historic jail turned art hot spot is providing visitors an opportunity to see sustainability in action. In addition to existing eco-initiatives, like LED lighting, recycling programs, drought-tolerant landscaping and renewable insulation material, the art center will be equipped with a solar array, a rainwater harvesting system and even more educational programs.
Event details
BROOKFIELD - JULY 6
Brookfield Zoo
This zoo inspires conservation by bringing people together with wildlife and nature. Through educational activities and community outreach, the zoo helps visitors understand how to be an environmental leader. And now with the installation of LED light poles across the zoo’s grounds, it will see a reduction in expenses, an increase in safety measures and the resolution of its light crisis.
Event details
WYNNEWOOD - TBD
Lankenau Medical Center
This forward-thinking hospital helps heal and nurture through nature. It’s a top 10 hospital in Pennsylvania and is one of the few nationwide hospitals to maintain a year-round garden. Wanting to showcase sustainability at the garden, the hospital will power up worm composting (vermicomposting) and its greenhouse using solar energy, along with collecting rainwater for its irrigation needs. The site will also feature LED lighting, creating a greener wellness garden.
Event details
WAPPINGERS FALLS - SEP 8
Common Ground Farm
This community-minded organic farm grows produce to donate to soup kitchens, local markets and food pantries, while serving as an educational model for healthy food choices. To expand its reach across neighborhoods and to add clean transportation to its list of sustainability successes, the farm is upgrading its Common Green bus with solar power and developing three new educational programs.
Event details
PITTSBURGH - AUG 10
Frick Environmental Center
This cutting-edge eco-center serves as a living laboratory for children to experiment and learn, through hands-on application, about sustainability, resource conservation and the power of nature.
