Green Streak: SXSW Offsets Panelists’ Carbon Footprint

For the second consecutive year, SXSW is working with Green Mountain Energy Companyto lower the event’s carbon emissions. For every panelist who attends this year’s conference, Green Mountain is offsetting the estimated carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gas emissions created by the person’s travel and hotel stay.

This is a continuation of last year’s partnership. In addition, we’ve worked with Green Mountain to offset the emissions from attendee travel to SXSW Eco for the past four years.

With headquarters in Austin, Texas, Green Mountain is the nation’s longest serving renewable energy retailer. Its mission is to use the power of consumer choice to change the way power is made, and the company serves residential and commercial customers across the nation.

Carbon offsets are investments in projects that reduce or avoid greenhouse gas emissions, allowing SXSW to neutralize part of our estimated environmental impact and support the continuation of carbon-reduction projects. We take responsibility for our environmental impacts and integrate sustainability into our efforts, and we’re proud to help present a more eco-friendly conference!

Keeping up the "green" spirit at SXSW, we encourage you to perform "random act of green-ness" during the conference this year – recycle plastic water bottles, carry a reusable bag, or hop on a bike instead of hopping in your car. Snap a photo of your random act of green-ness and share it on social media with #GreenMountainEnergy. We can’t wait to see what you do!
