Chameleon Cold-Brew Purchases Carbon Offsets from Green Mountain Energy Company

Austin-based organic coffee company partners with Green Mountain Energy Company to offset its carbon impact from shipping

AUSTIN, Texas –Chameleon Cold-Brew, a newly established organic coffee company, announced today it is purchasing carbon offsets from Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy and carbon offsets. The two companies will team up to offset the carbon impact of shipping Chameleon Cold-Brew’s organic coffee to customers.

As a company that uses only 100 percent organic, fair trade Arabica beans and filtered water to create its cold brew coffee, Chameleon Cold-Brew is dedicated to conducting its business as a responsible steward of the earth. Chameleon Cold-Brew will purchase the amount of carbon offsets necessary to balance out the emissions created from shipping its coffee to mail-order customers.

“We’re excited to work with Green Mountain Energy Company, an innovative and market leading partner, to find ways for our small start-up business to be environmentally responsible, said Chris Campbell, Co-Founder of Chameleon Cold-Brew. “Using the offsets purchased through Green Mountain allows Chameleon Cold-Brew to affordably meet customer demands for our coffee in regions outside of Central Texas while staying true to our sustainability principles.”

Green Mountain first began selling carbon offset products to commercial businesses in 2006 and has since provided carbon reduction solutions to commercial clients nationwide. “Green Mountain is a company founded on the environmental mission to change the way power is made,” said Scott Martin, vice president of Green Mountain’s Commercial Division. “We are excited to work with another Austin-based company that is committed to sustainability.”

By purchasing the carbon offsets, Chameleon Cold-Brew will offset an estimated 165 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2), a harmful greenhouse gas that leads to global warming, for each 20 shipments. This offset is equivalent to taking 5 cars off the road for one day or the amount of CO2 absorbed by 10 trees in one year.
