Green Mountain Energy Company Presents Check to Keep Houston Beautiful

Local Chapter receives $1,397 check after participating in Green Mountain’s Earth Day Charity Voting Challenge

Houston, Texas - Keep Houston Beautiful received a belated Earth Day gift today. Green Mountain Energy Company, the nation’s leading competitive retail provider of cleaner energy, presented the local beautification chapter with a check for $450, a donation made on behalf of Green Mountain customers.

Today, Green Mountain’s Super Earth Mascot and Houston Market Manager, Sean Figaro, presented the check to Robin Blut, the Executive Director at Keep Houston Beautiful at the organization’s local office, at 3000 Richmond, Suite 350 Houston, TX 77098. The donation was a result of Green Mountain’s first Earth Month Charity Voting Challenge, which took place during April. Through the Challenge, Green Mountain Facebook fans and customers were encouraged to vote for their favorite Keep Texas Beautiful affiliate to help it win a portion of an overall $5,000 donation. The $5,000 donation was then split between the six affiliates based on the percentage of votes. The six Keep Texas Beautiful affiliates that participated in the Challenge were Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, Houston, Corpus Christi, and McAllen.

“This donation will help Keep Houston Beautiful continue its efforts in beautifying the community and supporting its educational initiatives,” said Sean Figaro, Houston market manager for Green Mountain Energy Company. “We are thrilled to see that Houston area residents went on Facebook to vote and share their enthusiasm for their city and the environment.”

The money will be used to continue to fulfill Keep Texas Beautiful’s mission to improve community environments through litter prevention, beautification and waste reduction. Keep Houston Beautiful hosts Adopt-A-Stop, Mural Projects, and other educational programs throughout the year while also participating in statewide efforts such as the Don’t Mess with Texas Trash-Off.

“We’re excited to have the support of a company like Green Mountain Energy Company,” said Cathie Gail, executive director of Keep Texas Beautiful. “On a state level, one of our primary goals is providing education and support to our more than 365 local affiliates. They are our ‘troops on the ground,’ and this donation ensures that some dedicated organizations can continue doing all they can to help keep Texas beautiful.”
