Singularity Solar Energy Brings the Power of the Sun to Low-Income Housing

Congratulations to Singularity Solar Energy on its first solar donation, thanks in part to Green Mountain Energy™ Sun Club™ members! Working with Habitat for Humanity, Singularity installed a solar array on the new home of a low-income Denton, TX resident. A second home in the same neighborhood will also receive solar panels from Singularity in the coming months.

Singularity Solar Energy is a non-profit with the goal of providing solar energy solutions to low-income home owners in the Dallas Fort-Worth Metroplex as a way to decrease costs for the homeowner and support the environment. In April 2012, the Sun Club announced a $10,000 donation to Singularity and on December 19, 2012, the first installation became official.

“It is exciting and rewarding to witness Singularity’s first solar installation,” said Jena Maharramov, director and CEO, Singularity Solar Energy. “Thanks to the Sun Club’s commitment to supporting non-profits with solar energy donations, two deserving Dallas-area families will have clean energy and cost savings for years to come.”

About the donation:

  • This is the Sun Club’s 41st solar dedication since it began in 2002
  • Glean Power, the installer, estimates that the arrays will save each homeowner about $350 on electricity annually
  • Annually, the 1.7 kilowatt array is expected to:
    • Generate 2,300 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of renewable energy, avoiding 2,700 pounds of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions
    • Have an environmental impact equal to not driving 3,000 miles a year!
