Green Mountain Energy Company and EnTouch Controls Partner to Provide Energy Management Systems for Small Commercial Customers

Restaurants, retail stores and schools can reduce energy use by 10 – 20 percent

DALLAS, Texas, November 12, 2012 - Green Mountain Energy Company and EnTouch Controls today announced that they will join forces for an exclusive offer to bring the EnTouch Energy Management System (EMS) to new and existing Green Mountain small business customers. The EnTouch EMS helps Green Mountain customers further reduce their environmental impact by coupling energy conservation with renewable energy. The EnTouch EMS measures, monitors and manages energy use and, according to customer case studies, can help reduce energy costs by up to 20 percent. On-bill financing makes implementation easy by bundling the cost of the tool into a customer’s monthly electricity bill.

Energy management is especially important for small businesses. According to the most recent Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration, small buildings comprise nearly 90 percent of the nation’s commercial buildings and use 50 percent more energy per square foot than larger facilities in part due to inefficiencies. ENERGY STAR® reports commercial buildings waste 30 percent of building energy use. Though energy is the most controllable operating expense for small businesses, typically defined as customers using less than 1 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, most have not taken steps to manage it. The EnTouch EMS helps business owners understand how and where they are using energy and enabling them to take steps to reduce their usage.

“The team at EnTouch Controls developed our industry leading EMS for small commercial facilities with a focus on simplicity, low cost, and ease of use,” said Greg Fasullo, CEO for EnTouch Controls. “By bringing the EnTouch EMS to Green Mountain customers, businesses are able to conserve natural resources through using less energy overall and choosing renewable energy.”

While traditional EMS systems are often complex and expensive for small businesses, the EnTouch Controls EMS leverages wireless networking and cloud-based analytics to create a simple to use and low cost platform. Because the reduction in energy and maintenance costs often pays for the system in less than two years, small commercial customers such as restaurants, retail stores, school districts and property management firms are able to take advantage of this energy management platform and gain control over their energy costs.

As an additional benefit, Green Mountain is offering an on-bill financing program that allows customers to pay for the EnTouch EMS through their monthly electricity bill, enabling them to install the system and begin realizing savings without incurring any upfront capital expenses.

“Green Mountain is committed to helping customers reduce their environmental impact through their choice of renewable energy, as well as through energy conservation measures,” said Scott Hart, President of Commercial Services at Green Mountain Energy Company. “In our trials to date, the EnTouch EMS has been extremely popular with our smaller commercial customers, who realized noticeable cost savings. We are pleased to be able to expand this offering to all of our small business customers.”

“The EnTouch EMS has demonstrated energy reductions of 10 to 20 percent or more and reductions in HVAC runtime of 25 percent,” added Fasullo. “The system can also automatically alert business or property owners to HVAC and other monitored equipment issues, saving both energy usage and maintenance expenses.”

The EnTouch EMS is available to Green Mountain small business customers in Texas, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, with additional markets coming soon.
