Objective

As part of its “Perfect Vision” campaign, Herman Miller (HMI) committed to purchase 100% green electricity to offset the electricity used at its various facilities. The challenge for HMI was how to cost effectively offset 100% of its electricity usage with renewable power. Along with its other initiatives, quickly and affordably achieving this goal helped placed HMI in the forefront of its industry as an environmental leader.

  • 2009: Herman Miller garnered its sixth consecutive placement on the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, an international stock portfolio that evaluates the annual performance of the world’s largest 2,500 companies using economic, environmental, and social criteria, known as the “triple bottom line” of sustainability.
  • 2007: Herman Miller moved up to No. 14 on CRO magazine’s annual listing of “100 Best Corporate Citizens.” The list takes a systematic approach to assessing the social and environmental characteristics of a good corporate citizen.
