Green Mountain Energy Gets Plugged In to Our Community

One of our most abundant sources of renewable energy is the people who work at Green Mountain Energy Company.  Our full-time and part-time folks are passionate about promoting sustainability in everything they do. One of our most abundant sources of renewable energy is the people who work at Green Mountain Energy Company.  Our full-time and part-time folks are passionate about promoting sustainability in everything they do.  Just the other day a couple of our guys were walking through Madison Square Park after a mid-afternoon chocolate milk shake attack at Shake Shack when they saw someone toss an empty plastic water bottle into a trash can.  Our eco-warriors did a dumpster dive into the trash can and retrieved the misplaced recyclable from permanent internment in a Staten Island landfill. Of course they didn’t  smell so good the rest of the afternoon.

Seriously, our employees love to be involved in helping improve the environment and quality of life in their neighborhoods. That’s why we created the Plugged In program to reward Green Mountain’s New York team members for volunteering their free time toward promoting sustainability in the five boroughs and Westchester County.  This is one way we’re getting plugged in to the community.

Last month our Plugged In volunteers helped plant 20,000 trees at Marine Park in Brooklyn with the Mayor’s MillionTreesNYC program. Other examples include neighborhood garden maintenance, street and park clean ups, and the NYC White Roof Project.

Organizations interested in inviting Green Mountain employees for volunteer projects should contact John Yandrasits at john.yand@greenmountain.com.
