The Cultural Activities Center (CAC) is a place where Central Texans go for unique experiences in art and entertainment. It’s also now a place where people can go to learn more about the benefits of solar energy. The Green Mountain Energy Sun Club® recently helped CAC celebrate its new solar array, which is estimated to produce 22,500 kilowatt-hours annually. The solar panels are a result of a $75,000 grant made by the Sun Club earlier this year.
The sustainable addition will greet guests of the CAC, as the new solar pergola frames the facility’s entryway. The solar panels will save more than 562,500 kilowatt-hours over its 25-year warranty, allowing the organization to offset operating costs for more enjoyment and celebration of the arts.
CAC is a community-funded arts center in Temple, Texas serving nearly 100,000 people annually. By inspiring the exploration, education and involvement in the arts, the organization provides a unique opportunity to enrich the community. CAC provides visitors of all ages with live performances by professional touring artists, concerts with world-class musicians, art galleries and classes, dance classes and camps, and a space for receptions and meetings.
Leadership from the Sun Club and CAC, along with the Temple Chamber of Commerce, officially dedicated the new solar pergola on Tuesday, Dec. 1 during a special ribbon-cutting event.
Since its founding in 2002, the Sun Club has donated more than $4 million to sustainable programs in numerous Texas communities and markets in the Northeast, and the solar installation at the CAC marks the 85th Sun Club dedication. Contributions to the Sun Club come from Green Mountain Energy Company’s residential customers in Texas, from Green Mountain Energy Company, its employees and other Sun Club supporters who believe in the program’s mission to support local nonprofit organizations through solar and sustainability projects.
Thank you to all of our Sun Club supporters for believing in the Sun Club’s mission and helping to make donations like this one at the Cultural Activities Center possible. Click here to make a one-time, tax-deductible donation to the Sun Club or visit www.gmsunclub.com to learn more.
