Pollution-Free Bike Sharing Just Got Greener

Green Mountain brought solar power to Fort Worth bikes (and cowboys.)

Earlier this year, we announced that the Green Mountain Energy Sun Club® was donating $35,000 to Fort Worth Bike Sharing, a Texas non-profit that offers bicycles for public use throughout Fort Worth, to bring new solar-powered bike stations to the city. We’re pleased to announce that we “flipped the switch” on nine new solar-powered stations and one retrofitted solar station this morning thanks to our customers’ support!

Now the bike stations are powered by the sun!

In true Texas fashion, Mayor Betsy Price and representatives of the local Stockyards Station, along with Green Mountain Energy and Fort Worth Bike Sharing, rode their bikes behind “The Herd,” a cattle drive, down Exchange Avenue this afternoon to celebrate the new solar-powered stations and the non-profit’s expansion to a total 43 stations and 350 bikes!

One of these new stations is at Stockyards Station – the first bike share station in North Fort Worth. The Sun Club-donated solar projects will help power the bicycle station kiosks to make this pollution-free mode of transportation even more sustainable!

Thanks to all of our customers and Sun Club supporters for your contributions to the program that help make solar donations like this one possible! Pedal on!
