NAME: Amanda L.amanda
OFFICE: Austin
TITLE: Office Coordinator and Executive Assistant
TIME ON THE MOUNTAIN: 3 years

WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
I started out in accounting and then recently transitioned into the role of Office Coordinator and Executive Admin. I love that I’ve gotten to see this company from multiple angles! My favorite thing about my current role is that I get to feel helpful every day. I love feeling that the little things I do make someone’s day a bit easier. Also, I really get a kick out of coaxing at least a grunt or grumble out of everyone that walks by the front desk in the morning, before they’ve had their first cup of coffee – I’m actually impressed with the number of morning people we have in our office!

TELL US YOUR FAVORITE GREEN MOUNTAIN STORY:
In the midst of a particularly busy time in the accounting department back in 2013, our office hosted the Office Olympics. Initially I hesitated, knowing that we were swamped and I likely wouldn’t have the time to participate. I was quickly convinced by a coworker that spending two minutes away from my spreadsheets wouldn’t kill me. Somehow, I managed to participate in each challenge, meet a ton of great people I had worked “around” but never with, and ultimately ended up winning the gold medal! Also – all that accounting work still got done on time. I definitely learned that making the time to connect with others, even during a busy time, has many rewards.

THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON YOU’VE LEARNED ON THE MOUNTAIN:
When the answer to a problem is not right there in front of you – go find it! There is a lot to be said for being a proactive problem solver. Also, I’ve learned that living a more sustainable life is about more than just picking the correct bin to throw your trash in (though that is a really important thing to know, too)!

ONE THING YOUR CO-WORKERS MIGHT NOT KNOW ABOUT YOU:
I occasionally moonlight as a Green Mountain voiceover narrator. It was so fun to have the opportunity do the voiceovers for several videos that are featured on the Green Mountain Energy YouTube channel, and a few outgoing voicemail messages, too! (Listen to Amanda narrate the GME Eco-Tips here!)

SHARE YOUR FAVORITE “SUSTAINABLE LIFE HACK”:
I am a bit of a crafter, so I’m always looking for ways to upcycle in crafty ways. To date, my favorite project has been to turn old throw pillow covers from Ikea into reusable shopping bags (with unused curtain ties sewn on as the handles). Not only were those pillow covers saved from the landfill, but I’ve avoided using dozens of plastic or paper shopping bags ever since.
