Sustainable Stories: Singularity Solar Energy

EDITOR’S NOTE: We want to learn how other companies approach sustainability, so we’ve decided to publish a series of posts featuring innovative companies and people who are doing their part to support our planet. See below to read a guest blog from Jena Maharramov of Singularity Solar Energy, a non-profit organization in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

What are Singularity Solar Energy’s sustainability goals, and what efforts have you made to achieve those goals?
Singularity Solar Energy seeks to reduce air pollutants and assist homeowners in producing sustainable, renewable energy by using solar panels. We have begun placement of solar panels on Habitat for Humanity homes with the support of Green Mountain Energy.

Why is sustainability important to Singularity Solar Energy? How have you engaged supporters in your mission?
Sustainability is important to us because we realize that the planet’s resources are precious. We should conserve the resources we have and decrease our levels of pollution and energy consumption in order to preserve our resources for the future and create a healthy planet. Solar panels are just one way of promoting sustainability for our planet’s resources.

What advice would you give other organizations that are trying to get their sustainability initiatives off the ground?
It’s great that many organizations have started, or are contemplating the possibility of “going green” for the sake of our environment. Organizations should get creative and think of different ways they can decrease pollutants and conserve resources. They should look at energy outputs and ways of decreasing energy usage. For example, one simple fix is having rooms with lights that turn off after a period of inactivity and turn on again when triggered by movement. This is great for bathrooms and other rooms and helps save energy. Also, companies can start recycling programs and other initiatives.
