The Green Mountain Energy™ Sun Club™ is donating $12,000 to the first solar-powered, vegetable-fueled mobile market in the Bronx at The BLK ProjeK. The donation will fund the purchase and installation of a solar array that will supplement the mobile market’s electricity usage with a new source of renewable energy and help power it through the Bronx as it delivers fresh food to inner-city neighborhoods.
Recently featured in the New York Times, The BLK ProjeK seeks to address food justice and economic development by harnessing the local, good food movement and creating small business and career opportunities for under-served individuals in neighborhoods with limited access to fresh, healthy produce. As the Sun Club continually seeks to support non-profit organizations that serve their communities with positive and sustainable missions, The BLK ProjeK was a perfect fit for our first solar donation in the Bronx, and we are thrilled to begin installing the solar project, which we are aiming to complete later this summer!
About the solar project:
- A $12,000 donation from the Sun Club funded the purchase and installation of the solar array
- Photovoltaic panels help power the mobile market and lessen the carbon footprint of the renovated bus as it travels through the Bronx
- The donation was funded by Green Mountain Energy Company, its employees, customers, and supporters who contribute to the Sun Club program to fund solar installations at non-profit organizations
