We’re excited to welcome Swarthmore Co-op Food Market to the Green Mountain family! The fresh produce community market took a new step toward sustainability by choosing 100% renewable energy from Green Mountain for the next three years.
As the third oldest food cooperative in the nation founded in 1937, Swarthmore Co-op has deep roots in supporting local farmers, delivering quality produce, and serving Pennsylvanian patrons. Their emphasis on sourcing and serving locally helps Swarthmore Co-op operate sustainably. That makes them a perfect fit for Green Mountain. We’re not only the longest serving renewable energy retailer in the country, we’re also on a mission to change the way power is made.
“Green Mountain is proud to be a part of the Swarthmore Co-op community with the like-minded mission of respecting the Earth’s natural resources,” said Zac Lowder, Pennsylvania Market Manager, Green Mountain Energy. “If you’re ever in Swarthmore, head over to the Co-op and know that the food you’re eating and the lights above you are supporting a more sustainable planet.”
By choosing renewable energy, the Co-op will avoid an estimated 761,600 pounds of CO2, similar to planting 90 trees, or as much as 370 Liberty Bells weigh.
If you want to get in on the action, head over to Swarthmore Food Celebration on October 26. They will be celebrating National Food Day with a mini-grilling festival and special sales.
