Today, the Green Mountain EnergyTM Sun ClubTM reached a new milestone with the dedication of its 50th solar project. Founded in 2002 with a mission to fund, build and promote solar power for non-profits to serve the community in a sustainable fashion, the Sun Club has since donated more than $2.3 million to 50 solar projects in 22 cities across the U.S. The Sun Club has installed more than 575 kilowatts of solar power and collectively avoided more than 877,900 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. That’s like planting 100 tress!
Our 50th solar project was dedicated to the Armand Bayou Nature Center, where countless plants and more than 370 animals species are preserved near the ship channel in southeast Houston. It now hosts 29 solar panels on its grounds, powering their various educational programs with 8,500 kilowatt-hours of pollution-free energy and avoiding about 9,900 pounds of CO2 each year.
The Sun Club has spread the power of solar far and wide, and we have no plans of slowing down! Thanks to our generous members who have joined us in our mission to change the way power is made!
