April is Earth Month and to help our planet feel extra special, the Green Mountain EnergyTM Sun ClubTM is announcing a series of solar array donations and dedications to non-profit organizations across Texas, Pennsylvania and New York! We kicked off the month by sharing good news with two non-profits in Texas that benefit nature.
The Armand Bayou Nature Center, a wilderness preserve and wildlife refuge in Pasadena, received a $30,000 donation to fund a series of solar array installations on their grounds and new facilities later in the year. The arrays will be incorporated into the Nature Center’s “Hands on History” programs for children, and accompanying educational displays will educate the general public on the importance of renewable energy.
Valley Nature Center in Weslaco also received a $30,000 donation to install a solar array on their brand new Nature Center Facility, which should help the building achieve LEED certification when it completes construction later this year. The array will bring solar power to the building’s state-of-the-art interactive exhibits, classrooms, meeting spaces and nature store.
Both of these organizations were founded with the goal to preserve natural resources and educate the public on renewable and restorative environmental practices, making them ideal recipients of these Sun Club donations.
Thank you to our current Sun Club members whose contributions helped make these donations possible! Relive the excitement with us by viewing photos of these events: http://www.flickr.com/photos/greenmtnenergy/.
