Black and Yellow to Green: Green Mountain Launches in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh is known for its sports teams, all which share similar colors of black and yellow. However, in recent years the city has been making green strides when it comes to sustainability and energy innovation. That’s why today we are proud to announce that Green Mountain Energy is now serving Pittsburgh!  Read the full press release.

Expanding into Pittsburgh is a natural fit for us, as there is already a clear passion for sustainability and renewable energy. Our new friend Aftyn Giles, Sustainability Coordinator for the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Energy Efficiency, explained, “We recognize cleaner sources of energy are vital to creating a more sustainable city and welcome Green Mountain’s leadership in renewable energy.”

We are excited to support the Pittsburgh community with renewable energy and take part in local initiatives that benefit the environment. Join us as we celebrate in Pittsburgh by:

  • Donating one tree to the Plant One Million program for each new residential customer that makes the switch to renewable energy. Plant One Million is an ambitious multi-state tree-planting campaign, encompassing 13 counties in southeastern Pennsylvania and parts of New Jersey and Delaware.
  • Partnering with the Dick’s Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon on May 5, 2013 and the Mayor’s Office of Sustainability and Energy Efficiency to minimize the race’s environmental impact by offsetting its carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Our carbon offset donation will balance out the CO2 emissions associated with event activities such as event vehicles, generators, and electricity use.
  • Participating at Party for the Planet, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium’s Earth Day celebration with games and information on renewable energy for visitors.
